Make your own ideas useful. This is something I would think Ralph Waldo Emerson would have wrote in one of his quotes. He was a great American writer and philosopher. In the 19th century he wrote a famous essay called “Self-Reliance.” A lot of people have different meaning on what his essay is about, including myself.
Emerson is a really difficult man to understand. His title is not difficult, but very confusing. Emerson’s title, “ On Self-Realiance”, to me means like check yourself deeply go into emotion about yourself. Also to check yourself on how you’ll approach a person. The thesis about his essay is about points in life that many humans do not acknowledge and comprehend.
Emerson’s main idea was supported with his tone by being brutally honest towards his readers. His tone was also very inspiring towards his audience. The diction he uses is very strong because he uses high end vocabulary. For example,”So God has armed youth and puberty and manhood no less with its own piquancy and charm..” Literally piquancy means pleasantly sharp and appetizing flavor. I would interpret that sentence by each person having their own style in life, by having a position they are in being good or either bad. Any person can interpret it anyway they want.
A way I can use Emerson’s idea to get through life is knowing that I am worthy and with dedication I can get anywhere. For instance, if I put so much effort in school and stay on task I know I will get in a good university. By remembering this I just need to forget about ignorant people. Dedicating myself only means that I could find anything to do be possible.
By reading my essay, you can see Emerson was a genuine and truthful man. He would tell you to screw everyone else and focus on yourself because no one else would.
