Sympathy and empathy may sound alike, but there meanings are different. Sympathy is a feeling of sorrow for someone else’s misfortune. Empathy is an ability to understand and share the feelings of others. An example of sympathy is me feeling bad for my brothers lack of knowledge. An example of empathy would be a person who lost a loved one because I can relate and we can share emotions together.
