A way to forget about the past is learn from the mistake or blessing and use it as an advantage for the future. If it is a dark past you can talk about it out loud because that can heal you slowly in order for you te get over it and move to the present.  If you only think about the future you can’t live the present. To stop focusing on the future you can control your breathing and rub a finger on your thumb. My experience with it was good.
